Job summary

COTA is seeking a Trainer, Vehicle Maintenance to coordinate and deliver advanced training within the vehicle maintenance department. This role collaborates with Maintenance leadership to ensure accurate tracking and evaluation of all training programs and to oversee apprenticeship programs and both foundational and ongoing training for supervisors.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in diesel mechanics or related field and four years of maintenance training and supervisory experience.
• Must obtain CDL Class B with a passenger endorsement within six months of employment.
• 608, 609 EPA licenses; CNG fuel system inspector license; NFPA 70E Arc Flash Certification; CPR Certification; ASE H and T series Master Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers hands-on, classroom, and on-the-job training for maintenance staff on diesel, CNG, electric bus systems.
• Conducts retraining for vehicle maintenance employees involved in accidents to reinforce safety protocols.
• Collaborates with vehicle maintenance leadership to assess training needs, align with strategic goals, and enhance team performance; recommends improvements.
• Designs and updates training materials, including manuals, lesson plans, certification programs, and online modules for a 24/7 work environment.
• Coordinates training with OEMs and component manufacturers; monitors vendor-led sessions for alignment with standards.
• Performs quality assurance activities, including vehicle inspections and analysis of road calls, PM times, and parts usage to identify root causes.
• Maintains training records and conducts competency assessments to ensure continuous improvement.
• Assists in the administration and testing for CDL permits.
