Job summary

Poway Unified School District is seeking a qualified bus maintenance technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair school buses and district vehicles, including diesel, gas, and alternative-fueled equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine diagnostics and maintenance on school buses and District vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel, gas, and alternative fueled fleets as assigned.
• Complete required inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure safety and reliability.

Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform occasional routine diagnostics and semi-skilled to skilled work in the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and routine maintenance of school buses and a variety of large and small diesel, gas, and alternative fueled District vehicles and equipment; perform required inspections and preventive maintenance of buses and other District vehicles.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and two years of experience involving vehicle maintenance and repair work.

Licenses And Other Requirements

Incumbents must have an acceptable driving record and must qualify for insurability by the District's insurance carrier.

• The following licenses or other requirements must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment:
• Valid California Class B or Class A commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements.
• US Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate.
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in Master Automotive Technician, Master Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technician, or Master School Bus Technician is desired.

NOTE: This classification has been identified as a safety-sensitive job class based on the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Employees in this job class are subject to random selection for alcohol or controlled substance testing.

• This is a safety sensitive position and employees will be subject to Department of Transportation Drug Testing Guidelines

The eligibility list created from this recruitment will be active for 6 months
