Job summary

Sun Valley Resort is seeking a Vehicle Maintenance Manager to lead the mountain fleet maintenance program, including snowcats, snowmobiles, and trucks. You will manage daily shop operations, guide a team of mechanics, and oversee budgets and fleet planning to ensure equipment readiness for winter and summer operations.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong safety knowledge, and ability to coordinate with Mountain Operations and other departments.

Qualifications

  • College degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Current U.S. Driver’s License required.

  • Oversee preventative maintenance and repair programs for mountain vehicles and heavy equipment, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trucks, and utility vehicles.
  • Review daily work orders, operational feedback, and maintenance requests to prioritize and assign shop tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance programs to ensure equipment readiness for winter and summer operations.
  • Maintain department budgets, including labor, operating expenses, parts procurement, outside services, and capital planning.
  • Support procurement planning for fleet replacement, equipment upgrades, and long‑term maintenance needs.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and support a team of mechanics, promoting professional development and operational excellence.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and corrective action as needed.

Job description

Keep Sun Valley’s mountain operations moving. The Vehicle Maintenance Manager leads the maintenance and repair of the Resort’s mountain fleet, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trucks, side‑by‑side, and other heavy equipment. This hands‑on leadership role oversees daily shop operations, supports a skilled team of mechanics, manages budgets and fleet planning, and ensures safety and regulatory standards are met. We’re looking for a mechanically experienced leader who thrives in a mountain environment and is passionate about building a strong team and keeping critical equipment ready for operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee preventative maintenance and repair programs for mountain vehicles and heavy equipment, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trucks, and utility vehicles
  • Review daily work orders, operational feedback, and maintenance requests to prioritize and assign shop tasks
  • Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance programs to ensure equipment readiness for winter and summer operations
  • Maintain department budgets, including labor, operating expenses, parts procurement, outside services, and capital planning
  • Support procurement planning for fleet replacement, equipment upgrades, and long‑term maintenance needs
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and employee development initiatives
  • Supervise, train, coach, and support a team of mechanics, promoting professional development and operational excellence
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and corrective action as needed
  • Participate in Mountain Operations leadership meetings and collaborate with other departments as needed
  • Assist with equipment repairs and shop operations when necessary
  • Oversee compliance with OSHA, DEQ, HAZMAT, SPCC, Lockout/Tagout, fuel system, and environmental safety requirements
  • Manage waste oil programs and coordinate required fueling system inspections and documentation
  • Support driver training initiatives related to company vehicle policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred
  • Previous experience managing vehicle maintenance operations or heavy equipment shops required
  • Prior mechanical experience working on heavy equipment, snowcats, snowmobiles, or similar machinery preferred
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DEQ, HAZMAT, SPCC, Lockout/Tagout, and related safety regulations
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
  • Experience developing maintenance schedules, budgets, and operational plans
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with computer systems, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office programs
  • Current U.S. Driver’s License required
  • Ski industry or mountain operations experience preferred
  • Engage in physical activities like walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching
  • Can safely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
