This position requires the skilled and safe operation of a tractor trailer used for transporting cargo on lengthy trips in and out of state. The employee is responsible for the security and good condition of the load, extensive record keeping, route planning, and determination. Duties include but are not limited to: loading, unloading, and transporting cargo using a tractor trailer for distribution of inventory from the Central Inventory Warehouse to the 14 NCDOT Divisions. Inspecting cargo loads prior to departure for proper balance and delivering in a timely manner. The ability to prepare and maintain records and reports of transportation operations, plan and select appropriate delivery routes, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, assist with the preparation and execution of an annual physical inventory count, and complete special projects. Other duties as assigned.

Applicant must either possess a current Commercial Driver's License at the date of hire, OR obtain it through on-the-job training and meet all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFT 383) within 360 days of hire.

Minimum education requirements include a high school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional licenses or certifications may be required to operate specific vehicles or equipment.
