Job summary

Lucid Motors is seeking a Vehicle Engineering Manager to lead cross-functional teams, align on vehicle design direction, and drive cost targets for future electric vehicles. You will interface with the Chief Engineer and participate in design reviews, sourcing, and engineering changes.

Ideal candidates have a strong engineering background, hands-on prototype experience, knowledge of manufacturing processes, and are willing to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional automotive experience.
  • Hands-on prototype/vehicle assembly know-how.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes: extrusions, castings, stampings.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams to design concepts for future vehicles.
  • Benchmark system- and vehicle-level direction with engineering teams.
  • CAD/sketch parts across Body-In-White, Suspension, Interiors, Exteriors, and more.
  • Represent the Chief Engineer in design reviews and change requests.
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods for optimal weight, attributes and cost.
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Craftsmanship, and Manufacturing.
  • Manage multiple complex projects in a demanding environment.

As a Vehicle Engineering Manager, you will work for the Vehicle Line Director of a specified vehicle program and design for the future of electric vehicles. You will sit with and meet daily with the Chief Engineering team to align on direction of the vehicle for design, attributes, and cost targets, and lead cross functional teams to achieve that goal. You will be accepted as a decision maker for concept freezes, engineering changes and sourcing.

This role is open to engineers who have a proven background in excellent design, while also being able to mentor and teach other engineers around the organization. This role will be filled by someone who is passionate about working together to make groundbreaking products with amazing innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Cross functionally pulls teams together to design and develop concepts from a blank canvas to achieve architecture proposals for future vehicles
  • Lead benchmarking activities (system level and vehicle level) to comprehend the direction the industry is going and review together with engineering teams
  • Quickly CAD/sketch parts for systems across the vehicle which includes, but is not limited to: Body-In-White, Closures, Suspension, Interiors, Exteriors, Seating, High Voltage, Low Voltage and General Packaging
  • Represent the Chief Engineer in design reviews, sourcing councils, engineering change requests and issue tracking meetings
  • Evaluate different types of manufacturing methods for achieving the best combination of weight, attributes, and cost
  • Work closely with stakeholders and attribute owners across the company which includes, but is not limited to: Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Craftmanship, Styling and Manufacturing
  • Manage multiple complex projects in a demanding environment
Qualifications
  • Proven engineering experience and excellence in design
  • Knowledge of mechanisms
  • Exceptional understand of physics and material science, and proven track record of application of those theories to component/vehicle design
  • Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly, vehicle assembly or vehicle service
  • A strong desire to create state-of-the-art engineering products as an integral part of a capable team
  • Experience and/or good knowledge of manufacturing processes (Extrusions, Castings, Stampings, etc.)
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% if needed
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the automotive industry
Preferred
  • Experience and proficiency with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software preferred
  • Knowledge of high voltage architectures
  • Knowledge of vehicle crash safety principles
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles
  • Knowledge of NVH principles
Education
  • BS/BEng (MS/Meng preferred), or equivalent experience, in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
