Lucid Motors in Newark, California is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the High Voltage Design team. You will lead the development of HV distribution systems, including connectors, harnesses, charge ports, and related components, guiding architecture, design, integration, validation, and launch across Lucid vehicle platforms.

• Collaborate with electrical engineers and manufacturing for integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive design decisions through analysis and testing.

Role Overview:

As a member of the High Voltage Design team, you will lead the development of next-generation high-voltage distribution systems including HV connectors, vehicle harnesses, charge ports, and associated electromechanical components. You will be responsible for architecture development, component design, vehicle integration, validation, and launch of critical HV systems that enable safe and reliable power delivery across Lucid vehicle platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own The Design: Take ownership of in-house HV connector designs, routing and optimization of HV harnesses, and related components for next-generation vehicle platforms, ensuring successful implementation from concept to production and beyond
  • Managing every aspect of design engineering from concept to production and beyond.
  • Develop system-level solutions that balance electrical performance, mechanical robustness, manufacturability, cost, serviceability, and customer experience.
  • Lead supplier technical reviews, DFMEA reviews, tooling reviews, validation alignment, and production launch activities.
• Prototype & Test: Design, build, and test your prototypes
  • Define and support executing environmental, vibration, thermal shock, temperature cycling, ingress protection, durability, and mechanical qualification testing
  • Drive design changes based on test results and real-world feedback.
• Innovate & Optimize: Continuously optimize designs for cost and performance without sacrificing safety or reliability.
• Collaborate: Work closely with electrical engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Mentor: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, lead internal design reviews, and drive engineering decisions through analysis, testing, and first-principles reasoning.
• Continuously Learn: Embrace new challenges and expand your engineering skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Ideally 3-6 years of relevant work experience but open to all levels of experience if paired with strong technical proficiency
• Rock-solid Mechanical Engineering fundamentals and a flair for creative problem-solving
• Experience designing and packaging vehicle wiring harnesses with consideration for routing, retention, serviceability, EMC, thermal environments, crash requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
• Strong 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA or similar software
• Proven Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) experience across injection molded plastics, sheet metal, die castings, busbars, and adhesives.
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis methods, such as 8D

Preferred

• Experience with automotive engineering
• Experience with battery disconnect units, HV junction boxes, and vehicle power distribution architectures
• Strong understanding of high-voltage design principles including creepage and clearance, touch‑safe architectures, HVIL systems, shielding, grounding, insulation systems, and electrical safety requirements.
• Experience designing HV connectors, cable assemblies, charge ports, or vehicle HV harness systems
• Understanding of connector contact mechanics, mating forces, sealing performance, vibration durability, and current carrying capability.
• Experience with FEA using Ansys or similar software

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Salary Range

Base Pay Range (Annual)

$131,500—$180,840 USD

Compensation & Benefits:

Lucid offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; paid time off; paid holidays, paid sick leave; and a 401(k) retirement plan. Hourly/non‑exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off. Eligible employees may also participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program. Incentive and equity awards, if applicable, are determined based on individual performance, role scope, market considerations, and overall company results, in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
