Job summary

Notre Dame in Redondo Beach, CA is seeking an engineering/science student for an on-site internship with our Vehicle Engineering team to design and build primary structures, tanks, mechanisms and thermal management systems, and to assist in hardware testing.

You will collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to solve technical challenges, gain hands-on experience with CAD, MATLAB, and Excel, and learn how hardware projects progress from design through build and test.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or completed engineering/science degree.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics, heat transfer, and materials.
• Hands-on hardware project experience required.
• Ability to work on-site in Redondo Beach for internship duration.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Support the Vehicle Engineering team in designing and building primary structures, tanks, supporting structures, mechanisms, and thermal management systems
• Assist in the design, analysis, and manufacturing of critical spacecraft hardware and testing equipment
• Collaborate directly with design and manufacturing engineers to produce and test hardware
• Resolve technical issues using innovative and resourceful solutions

About You

The company is looking for candidates who have:

• Completed or are working towards a degree in engineering or science
• Ability to take project ownership and work well in a small team
• Proficiency in basic principles of mechanics and materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluids
• Hands-on experience with mechanical systems
• Experience managing hardware projects through design, build, and test phases
• Familiarity with CAD software and ability to learn new tools
• Familiarity with analysis programming such as MATLAB and Excel
• Willingness and ability to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA for the internship duration
• Availability for possible overtime hours; interns are eligible for overtime pay

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay of $30.00
