Responsibilities

  • Operate motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, and buses to transport passengers.
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of logs and records for vehicle operation.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance, fueling, and minor repairs.
  • Conduct safety checks before departure and during service; maintain mileage records.
  • Assist in training others and safely loading/unloading passengers including ADA devices.

Salary Range: $15.54 To $16.54 Hourly

Performs complex (journey-level) motor vehicle operations work. Work involves operating motor vehicles used in the transport of passengers. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Operates motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, and buses to pick up and transport passengers on various modes of transit service. Prepares or oversees the preparation of records and logs pertaining to vehicle operation. Performs vehicle maintenance, makes minor repairs, fuels, and details vehicles. Conducts safety checks of vehicles before departure for service and at regular intervals and after transit service. Maintains a record of mileage and other pertinent information and submits a trip report after transit service day. Secures and protects passengers and ADA passengers on mobility devices. Monitors the safe loading and unloading of passengers. May operate vehicle power wheelchair lifts and ramps. May assist in performing transit work. May train others. Other Important Duties*Performs other such related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the operation of motor vehicles on a commercial basis. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Knowledge of: motor vehicle operations, of passenger loading and unloading methods, of traffic rules and regulations, of Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations, and of maintenance of motor vehicles. Skill n operating motor vehicles. Ability to obey traffic laws, to follow practices in loading and unloading passengers, to prepare accurate records, to communicate effectively, and to train others. The ability to communicate Bilingual, English and Spanish.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURE
  • Requires driver trainings/certifications from training and/or transportation agencies.
  • Requires a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Requires a valid Texas Commercial driver’s license with Passenger Endorsement.
  • This position is classified as a safety sensitive position in accordance with FTA’s 49 CFR Part 40
