Job description

Job Summary:

The VDC Process Lead is a senior-level subject matter expert responsible for the strategic ownership, optimization, and management of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) workflows for our hydronic trades. While this role operates at a supervisory level of expertise, it is a dedicated individual contributor position focused on process excellence, technology integration, and standardizing our approach to mechanical construction detailing. This role reports to the VDC Process Manager and collaborates closely with the Hydronics VDC Operations Manager and fellow operations development team members to drive continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary owner of the hydronic VDC workflows, continuously evaluating and upgrading systems to ensure maximum operational efficiency.


• Lead the generation, documentation, and ongoing management of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure high levels of consistency and quality control across all hydronic operations.


• Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert for the deliverables schedule, ensuring that the business's internal tracking tools for detailing, spooling, and fabrication requests are leveraged effectively.


• Partner with Operations Managers to identify workflow bottlenecks, define technical solutions, and prioritize process development initiatives based on strategic operational needs.


• Provide strategic guidance and business logic to the technology team's developers for API integrations and custom automation tools that support hydronic VDC workflows.


• Serve as the formal point of escalation for complex process-related issues, providing expert‑level support and targeted training to ensure total process adherence.


• Actively contribute to and lead designated research and development (R&D) initiatives focused on emerging hydronic VDC technologies, tools, and methodologies.

Position Requirements (Work Experience, Skills, Licenses, etc.):

• Expert-level proficiency in industry‑standard VDC software, including Autodesk Revit, Fabrication CADmep, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)/BIM 360.


• Demonstrated mastery in process mapping, workflow optimization, and the creation of comprehensive technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


• Strong conceptual understanding of APIs and data structures, with a specific focus on visual programming (e.g., Dynamo is a plus) to effectively guide software developers.


• Exceptional communication skills capable of translating complex field and fabrication needs into clear, actionable technical requirements for development teams.


• Proven ability to work independently, manage complex and ambiguous tasks, and influence stakeholders across various departments without direct authority.


• Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on identifying root causes within technical VDC workflows and fabrication outputs.

Education and Experience

Required:

• 7+ years of experience in mechanical construction, with a deep understanding of hydronic and piping systems, fabrication processes, and field installation requirements.

Desired:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Travel Requirements:

Travel to (field, shop, project site) may be required 10-15% of the time.

Hours:

This is an exempt position. Workdays are scheduled from Monday through Friday. Typically, work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm as scheduled with the position's supervisor. Work outside of regular hours may occasionally be necessary to meet business needs.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.


• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision for technical plan review and site safety.


• Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during office work and site visits.


• Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.


• Regularly required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for the purposes of assisting with project job walks and site inspections.

Competitive Wages:

$106,000 to $143,000 annually. Applicants, please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
