Job summary

PCL Buildings Inc. is seeking a VDC Manager to lead digital design and construction workflows for a national data center business unit. You will oversee multidisciplinary models, staffing strategies, and process improvements across regions.

The role requires a solid background in VDC, 3D modeling, and BIM execution, along with strong collaboration with design and field teams. This position offers competitive compensation and benefits in a dynamic, employee-owned company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a buildings-industry related discipline (AEC, civil, architectural).
  • 8–10 years construction experience including 4–5 years VDC-related experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequences and processes.
  • Ability to provide project model management and QA for VDC models.
  • Advanced ability to read and translate 2D drawings into 3D/4D BIM.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure multidiscipline construction models are current and adhere to standards.
  • Manage distributed staffing resources and budgets for new pursuits.
  • Collaborate with estimating on staffing and project scopes for VDC tools.
  • Support setup and governance of digital workflows.
  • Coordinate trade detailing and design deliverables; liaison between design and construction teams.
  • Assist in pursuit stage with narrative and proposal materials.

Here’s how a VDC Manager contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Ensures multidiscipline construction models are current and modeling standards are being adhered to, to meet construction needs.

  • Manages integrated construction resource allocation at the district level and leads department process improvement activities.

  • Liaises with estimating to establish and manage staffing resources and budgets for new pursuits and projects.

  • Participates in project interviews and proposal writing in respect to virtual design construction (VDC) & other integrated technologies.

  • Supports the setup, management, and best practices of digital workflows.

  • Coordinates and manages trade detailing and design deliverables.

  • Liaises between design teams and construction teams.

  • During the pursuit stage, works with the project team to review and recommend scopes that VDC tools and processes can be incorporated into the project.

  • Participates in scoping design deliverables and trade detailing requirements.

  • Participates in the pursuit and proposal of a project including the narrative and presentation material development and delivery.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree, diploma, or 2-year certificate in a buildings-industry related discipline (e.g., architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC), civil, architectural).

  • 8 to 10 years of construction-related experience including 4 to 5 years of Virtual Design and Construction-related experience.

  • Strong understanding of construction sequences.

  • Strong understanding of and proven experience implementing construction technology.

  • Ability to provide project model management.

  • Intermediate knowledge of the building construction process and the various building components involved at each stage of construction.

  • Ability to ensure the quality of virtual design and construction models from design and trade partners.

  • Understanding of trade detailing and design workflows.

  • Advanced ability to read and understand 2D and 3D construction drawings and specifications and translate 2D drawings and specifications into a complete 3D/4DBuilding Information Model.

  • Advanced understanding and training in 3D modeling software.

The estimated salary range for this role is $111,000 – $170,000, based on your experience, qualifications, and location. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
