Job description

POSITION TITLE: VDC Lead

Departments:Virtual Design & Construction (VDC)

Reports to: VDC Manager

Direct Reports:VDC Specialist (as assigned)

Position Overview

The VDC Lead is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) efforts in support of Concrete Strategies’ self‑perform concrete operations. This role bridges the gap between design intent and field execution by leveraging 3D and 4D modeling to improve constructability, sequencing, safety, and production efficiency.

As a technical and operational leader, the VDC Lead partners closely with estimating, project management, and field teams to deliver accurate, construction‑driven models that support decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle—from pursuit and preconstruction through active construction. This role also plays a key part in advancing CSI’s VDC standards, workflows, and best practices, while mentoring junior VDC team members and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, development, and coordination of 3D and 4D concrete models to support self‑perform construction operations across all project phases, from pursuit through closeout
  • Translate design intent into constructible, execution‑ready models that reflect concrete means, methods, sequencing, access, and production constraints
  • Integrate project schedules into models (4D) to support phasing strategies, pour sequencing, logistics planning, and visual communication with field teams
  • Develop and maintain accurate model‑based quantity takeoffs to support estimating, procurement, cost control, and change management
  • Create visual tools, dashboards, and model‑based deliverables to support internal decision‑making, client presentations, and pursuit efforts
  • Lead and participate in coordination meetings with General Contractors, designers, and trade partners to identify clashes, resolve conflicts, and drive constructability solutions
  • Proactively identify constructability, sequencing, and risk issues through model analysis and collaborate with project teams to implement solutions before they impact the field
  • Serve as the primary VDC point of contact for assigned projects, ensuring alignment between VDC efforts, project goals, and field execution
  • Partner closely with estimating, project management, and operations teams to ensure models support real‑world construction planning and productivity
  • Support field teams by providing clear, accurate visualizations and model extracts that enhance understanding, communication, and execution
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and enforcement of VDC standards, workflows, and best practices across the organization
  • Mentor and support junior VDC team members, providing technical guidance, quality oversight, and professional development support
  • Stay current with VDC, BIM, and construction technology trends, tools, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Education / Experience / Attributes / Requirements – VDC Lead
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered
  • 5+ years of experience in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) / BIM, with a strong focus on self‑perform concrete construction
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit
  • Strong understanding of cast‑in‑place concrete means and methods, sequencing, and production planning
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings (structural, civil, architectural, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and model deliverable requirements
  • Experience supporting or developing 4D schedule integration and construction phasing visualizations
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and spatial reasoning skills
  • Demonstrated constructability‑driven problem‑solving approach
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field teams, project managers, and external partners
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Self‑motivated, accountable, and comfortable operating with a high level of ownership
