Job summary

CompassMSP is seeking a Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) to serve as a strategic technology advisor for MSP clients. You will align IT strategies with business goals, drive growth, and oversee governance, risk, and security programs.

Ideal candidates have CIO-level experience, MSP delivery know-how, strong vendor management, and a track record in cloud, cybersecurity, and compliance. A CS/IS degree is required; a Master’s is preferred.

Job description

The Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) serves as a strategic technology advisor for our Managed Service Provider (MSP) clients. The vCIO works closely with client leadership teams to align IT strategies with business objectives, ensuring technology is a driver for growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

Proven experience in IT leadership, preferably as a CIO, IT Director, or senior technical consultant.

Strong understanding of MSP business models and managed services delivery.

Expertise in cloud services, cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and infrastructure management.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.

Strong vendor management and negotiation experience.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

Client satisfaction and retention rates.

Alignment of IT spend with business objectives.

Reduction in client risk posture (e.g., compliance gaps closed).

Job responsibilities

- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Budgeting & Vendor Management

- Design and manage client IT budgets ensuring cost-effectiveness and ROI.

- Negotiate with vendors and service providers on behalf of clients.

- Monitor vendor performance to meet SLA and business expectations.

Cybersecurity Oversight

- Advise on security posture improvements and recommend tools for protection.

- Review and oversee implementation of backup, recovery, and endpoint security strategies.
