CompassMSP is seeking a Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) to lead strategic technology advisory for our MSP clients. You will align IT with business goals, drive growth, and ensure operational excellence while communicating complex concepts to business leaders.

We value CIO-level leadership, MSP domain expertise, cloud and cybersecurity proficiency, and strong vendor management. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven IT leadership experience at CIO/IT Director or senior technical consultant level.
• Strong understanding of MSP business models and managed services delivery.
• Expertise in cloud services, cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and infrastructure management.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
• Strong vendor management and negotiation experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop multi-year IT roadmaps tailored to client business needs.
• Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to evaluate progress and adapt strategies.
• Align technology initiatives with client goals, budgets, and timelines.
• Provide CIO-level consulting services for clients without a dedicated CIO.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive teams on IT investments and priorities.
• Recommend emerging technologies to foster innovation and competitive advantage.
• Oversee IT policies, compliance, and security frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC2, etc.).
• Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Design and manage client IT budgets ensuring cost-effectiveness and ROI.
• Negotiate with vendors and service providers on behalf of clients.
• Monitor vendor performance to meet SLA and business expectations.
• Oversee backup, recovery and endpoint security strategies.

The vCIO works closely with client leadership teams to align IT strategies with business objectives, ensuring technology is a driver for growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

Proven experience in IT leadership, preferably as a CIO, IT Director, or senior technical consultant.

Strong understanding of MSP business models and managed services delivery.

Expertise in cloud services, cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and infrastructure management.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.

Strong vendor management and negotiation experience.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).

- Design and manage client IT budgets ensuring cost-effectiveness and ROI.

- Negotiate with vendors and service providers on behalf of clients.

- Monitor vendor performance to meet SLA and business expectations.

Cybersecurity Oversight

- Advise on security posture improvements and recommend tools for protection.

- Review and oversee implementation of backup, recovery, and endpoint security strategies.
