Job summary

HDR is seeking a VCF Platform Engineer I to provide day-to-day operational support for the private cloud and virtual infrastructure. You will assist with lifecycle tasks, patching, upgrades, and deployment of workload domains, while ensuring platform health and stability.

The role requires hands-on VMware vSphere administration, IaC familiarity, and scripting experience. This on-site position in Portland supports 24/7 operations with scheduled on-call availability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in infrastructure operations, virtualization or systems administration.
• Hands-on with VMware vSphere administration.
• Experience managing ESXi hosts, clusters and VMs.
• Familiarity with IaC concepts and repeatable deployments.
• Linux and Windows Server administration proficiency.
• Scripting/automation with PowerCLI, Python or Ansible.
• Understanding of core datacenter concepts: compute, storage, networking, patching, monitoring.
• Ability to support production tasks with change control and stability.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day operational support for the VCF private cloud platform with established procedures.
• Support SDDC Manager, workload domains, and vSphere cluster operations.
• Execute host adds/removals, cluster maintenance, certificate updates, health checks.
• Assist with VCF lifecycle tasks including patching and upgrades.
• Provision infrastructure and support deployment of workload domains and VM hosting environments.
• Monitor platform health, escalate risks to senior engineers/Platform Manager.
• Participate in incident response for infrastructure and platform issues.
• Maintain infrastructure-as-code templates and golden VM images.
• Cross-train across compute, storage, and networking within VCF.
• Maintain runbooks and support knowledge articles.
