Job Description
Performs vascular studies on assigned patients, utilizing independent judgment in applying non-ionizing, high-frequency ultrasonic waves for disease diagnosis. Collaborates with clinicians to ensure the appropriateness of studies and performs related administrative tasks.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for vascular ultrasound exams by positioning them on examination tables according to departmental procedures and explaining procedures in layman's terms to reduce pre-test anxiety.
- Obtains relevant imaging and diagnostic reports for correlation with ultrasound findings.
- Consults with referring physicians regarding patient history to determine the appropriate ultrasound exam.
- Sets up equipment and adjusts settings to perform specific exams accurately and efficiently, using technical judgment.
- Performs physiologic arterial testing of upper and lower extremities, including analogue waveforms, segmental pressures, photoplethysmography, pulse volume recording, exercise or hyperemia response, and duplex imaging.
- Performs intracranial cerebrovascular testing using transcranial duplex imaging.
- Performs venous testing of upper and lower extremities utilizing duplex imaging.
- Observes the patient throughout the examination, recognizing and reporting any changes in condition or complaints such as fainting or discoloration.
- Documents imaging details, labels studies, and maintains records and logs of exams performed.
- Performs calibration checks and adjustments on ultrasound equipment and troubleshoots mechanical issues as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required. All responsibilities are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act; duties not mentioned but related are non-essential.
Job Qualifications
- Vocational or technical school diploma required.
- Current Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Specialist certification required.
- Additional specialized certifications as needed.
- 1-3 years of relevant technical experience required.
