Qualifications

  • Assist the Head Coach in leading the Varsity Sailing Program.

  • Foster a team culture built on sportsmanship, discipline and collaboration.
  • Mentor student-athletes on and off the water; help with training curricula.
  • Assist in safety-focused sailing instruction, racing tactics, and boat handling.
  • Help with youth recruitment, skill progression, and competition readiness.
  • Prepare teams for regattas and reinforce race rules and weather decisions.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Coach to help lead our Varisty Sailing Team. This role is ideal for someone who values development, positive mentorship, and creating a fun, competitive environment appropriate for varsity athletes.

Job Summary: Ashley Hall is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Varsity Assistant Sailing Coach to support the Head Coach in leading its competitive sailing program. The Assistant Coach will help develop a high-quality sailing program that provides a clear and supportive pathway for student-athletes, from beginner through varsity levels. The ideal candidate will support the program's vision and strategic growth, promoting teamwork, safety, skill development, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Assistant Coach for the Ashley Hall Sailing Program, working under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Support practices and regattas, assisting with athlete development from Grades 712.
  • Help foster a team culture rooted in collaboration, sportsmanship, and discipline.
  • Provide mentorship and support to studentathletes both on and off the water.
  • Assist in implementing the sailing curriculum, with a strong focus on safety, seamanship, racing tactics, and boat handling.
  • Support strategies for longterm program growth, including youth recruitment, skill progression, and competition readiness.
  • Help design and lead safe and effective onwater and landbased training sessions.
  • Assist in preparing the team for regattas by reinforcing racing strategies, rules, and weatherrelated decisionmaking.
  • Serve as an onsite coach at regattas and team events, ensuring safe boat handling and strong team representation.
  • Work closely with the Head Coach and other Ashley Hall coaches to align athletic values and student support.
  • Represent Ashley Hall and its values within the local and regional sailing communities.
  • Help engage families and alumni to build enthusiasm and support for the sailing program.
  • Assist with scheduling of practices, regattas, and transportation.
  • Help maintain, inventory, and ensure the safe operation of all sailing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and risk management protocols.
Qualifications:
  • Prior coaching experience in sailing preferred, ideally with high school or youth sailing programs.
  • Strong knowledge of sailing fundamentals, racing tactics, safety protocols, and fleet management.
  • Certification in US Sailing Level 1 (minimum); Level 2 or higher preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to assist with team logistics and regatta planning.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, and to travel for regattas and events.
  • Completion of all required Ashley Hall and SCISA paperwork.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check, reference checks, and medical requirements.
