Job summary

Ashley Hall School seeks an experienced full-time Chemistry teacher for its upper school faculty (grades 9-12). In addition to teaching core chemistry, the candidate will offer at least one elective science course and differentiate instruction for mixed proficiency levels.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of secondary teaching experience, a Master’s in Chemistry preferred, and a background in student-centered instruction.

Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
• Experience teaching varied levels in high school (grades 9-12) including AP levels preferred.
• Strong background in instruction that differentiates to access learning for all students.
• Knowledge of or training in IB methods is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular feedback to students to guide learning and development.
• Proactively communicate with students, parents, and administration about student progress or concerns.
• Design course content and materials for core chemistry classes and elective courses.
• Create and administer lessons and assessments to gauge acquisition of core content competencies.
• Provide regular office hours for students to get extra help and individual assistance.
• Possess flexibility to teach interdisciplinary courses within a team environment.
• Use subject-relevant technologies to support instruction and student exploration.
• Demonstrate initiative and collaboration with department members and administration.

Upper School Science Teacher (Grades 9-12)

Multigrade (10-12) Marine Science Elective

Reports to: Grades 9-12 Division Director

Role Duration: Faculty 10 months, full time

Position Summary and Personal Attributes:

Ashley Hall School seeks an experienced full time Chemistry teacher to join its upper school science faculty. In addition to teaching their primary subject, Ashley Hall science teachers are asked to offer at least one elective science course. They are welcome to propose course topics for the approval of their Department Chair. The successful candidate must have experience teaching a variety of levels in the high school (grades 9-12) including standard and Advanced Placement levels. Though not a requirement, a strong teaching background in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or training in IB methodology would be advantageous. The successful candidate will have a love for teaching and working with high school students; placing them at the center of the learning experience. Such an inspirational teacher must possess excellent knowledge of the subjects they are to teach. At the core of the successful candidate’s instructional methodology is the ability to differentiate instruction so students of various levels can successfully access learning. We seek an individual with the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students within the guiding framework of the school’s mission: empowering young women to think critically, act ethically, and embrace their world with confidence.

Key Requirements

• Master's degree in Chemistry is preferred
• A minimum of five (5) or more years teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred

• Proficiency with developmentally-appropriate instructional strategies for teaching upper school-aged children

Ashley Hall serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co‑ed in its Early School, ages 2 to 5 years). The School provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
