Job summary

St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA is seeking a Varsity Dive Assistant Coach for the winter season to work with athletes in grades 7–12 at our on-site aquatic facility. You will help plan practices, run drills, and support competition preparation.

The role requires diving experience or coaching background, strong leadership, and the ability to teach fundamentals safely. Typical hours align with after-school practices (5:00–6:45 pm), and the position is salaried, temporary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Competitive diving experience and/or coaching experience required.
• Strong knowledge of diving techniques, rules, scoring, training methods, and safety practices.
• Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate diving fundamentals and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes at varying skill levels.
• Experience working with and supporting school-age students preferred; strong communication skills.
• Demonstrate strong leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Dive Coach in planning practices and competitions.
• Teach diving techniques, body positioning, approaches, takeoffs, dives, and entries.
• Provide individualized instruction and encouragement to help student-athletes develop skills and confidence.
• Support conditioning, mental preparation, focus, and athletic development.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, team activities, and travel.
• Maintain a safe and positive training environment and reinforce diving safety practices.
• Assist with meet preparation, including warm-ups and event organization.
• Create a positive, inclusive team environment aligned with the School’s mission.
• Prepare and manage practice plans, game strategies, lineups, and other team activities.
• Set a tone of professionalism among coaches, athletes, and parents.
• Assist with proper use of diving equipment and report safety concerns.
• Attend scheduled practices, competitions, and meetings.
• Follow school policies including safety and eligibility.
• Maintain required certifications and trainings.”
