Pay Rate: $22.00/hr

Job Summary

Under the close supervision of the Recreation Specialist - Aquatics, a Swim Team Coach is responsible for developing the swim team’s abilities and ensuring the safety of swimmers. Responsibilities include creating workouts, teaching correct competitive strokes using various techniques, drills, and games. The coach evaluates individual and team performance, explains techniques, and assists with skills improvement. They monitor pool activities during swim meets and practices. The Swim Team Coach should show genuine interest in all swimmers and enthusiasm in coaching.

The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. Variable employees are at-will, seasonal or temporary workers whose schedules depend on business needs. This is a part-time, non-benefitted position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coaching during weeknights (CARA) and/or weekends (Master’s)
2. Attending various swim meets on weekends
3. Performing office tasks such as creating swim cards for meets, emailing participants, managing team attendance, handling awards, and creating daily workouts

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: General supervision from the Aquatics Specialist

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to interact positively with participants and the public
• Ability to employ and model effective instructional methods and techniques
• Background check required

Technological Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Education and Experience

• Education: N/A
• Previous coaching experience
• Experience with group swim teams (e.g., USA Swimming, Summer Club, etc.)

Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

• Current American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Certifications or equivalent, or in the process of obtaining them
