GG&C Bus Company Inc. is seeking a part-time School Van Driver in Elyria, OH to transport students to and from school and related events, following safety procedures and state Board of Education rules.

You will ensure passenger safety, assist with boarding, communicate rules, and maintain a clean vehicle while reporting safety concerns to the Transportation Department. Requires a valid driver license and ability to pass a medical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.
  • Operate and safely drive a school Van in various weather and road conditions while transporting passengers to school or events.
  • Communicate Van rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers and address improper behavior promptly.
  • Communicate with students' parents to resolve inappropriate or unsafe behavior.
  • Assist students boarding and unloading the Van, including wheelchair passengers and adaptive equipment.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance such as fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure, cleaning, and safe operation.

Job description

School Van drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. School Van drivers pick up students at a designated location homes and drop them off at school.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.

  • Operate and safely drive a school Van in either good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Communicate Van rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.
  • Communicate with student's parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the Van when necessary, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.
  • Inspect Vanes daily to identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure checks, clean internal and external areas, install tire chains, and any other normal daily maintenance as required.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Responsible to know rules, regulations (Federal, State and District) and laws concerning operation of a school Van; and comply with all traffic regulations.
  • Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Complete all records and reports timely and accurately and submit to Transportation Department.
  • Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.
  • Operation of a two-way radio.
  • Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Current Driver License.
  • Ability to pass medical examination.

  • Dependability: Demonstrated ability to consistently be at work and on time as scheduled, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and solicit feedback to improve performance.
