Job summary

Regional School Unit 57 seeks a Van Driver to safely operate and maintain the district van on a daily basis in Maine. A high school diploma and a valid Maine operator's license with two years of driving experience are required.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, safe transportation of students to authorized stops, and reporting any vehicle issues to the Transportation Director. Hourly pay ranges from $19.40 to $23.17.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate school van daily.
  • Check van for mechanical defects using inspection form.
  • Keep van clean inside and wash inside and out monthly or sooner.
  • Discharge students at authorized stops.
  • Enforce district rules on vans and follow discipline procedures.
  • Report vehicle damage to Transportation Director.
  • File accident reports as necessary.
  • Drive safely in accordance with State law.
  • Refer transportation change requests to Director of Transportation.
  • Assist in inter-school mail and supply deliveries.
  • Ensure van is empty and secured when unattended.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Job Goal
  • Safe operation, maintenance and routing of the assigned school van on a day-to-day basis.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Safely operate school van on a daily basis
  • Check van before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection form
  • Clean assigned van inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriate
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops
  • Enforce rules governing student conduct on vans and utilize district’s formal discipline procedure when appropriate
  • Report any damage to the vehicle to Transportation Director
  • File accident report as necessary
  • Utilize safe driving practices in accordance with State law
  • Refer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of Transportation
  • Assist in inter-school delivery of mail, and supplies
  • Ensure that the van is empty and secured whenever the van is unattended. Periodically check the van for security
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.

Terms of Employment: Hourly, work year (176 days) and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Hourly Rate: $19.40–$23.17 per hour

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
