Job summary

ServingSchools in Maine is seeking a Van Driver to support student transportation and district programs.

Must hold a valid Maine van license, have a clean driving record, and demonstrate reading and writing in English. No prior van driving experience is required. You will train at the route location and be expected to assist students, handle emergencies calmly, and operate a 7-passenger van and related cleaning equipment as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to complete training at the location of routes.
• Student discipline in accordance with District Policies.
• Abide by all State of Maine Highway laws.
• No previous experience as a van driver required.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and efficient transportation so students may participate in district curriculum and programs.
• Operate up to a 7-passenger van and related equipment safely; respond calmly in emergencies.
• Assist students, including those who are wheelchair-bound, and manage driving under adverse conditions.

To provide safe and efficient transportation so students may participate to the fullest possible advantage in district curriculum and extra-curricular programs, with no problems related to transportation interrupting educational programs.

Working Conditions

Required to operate up to an 7 Passenger Van and operate pressure washing equipment. Must work appropriately with all age groups. Must have ability to react quickly and appropriately to hazardous situations involving student safety and stay calm in an emergency. Must be capable of physically assisting students from the van when necessary which may include wheel-chair bound students. Must drive in adverse conditions, including icy roads, snow storms and darkness. Will be exposed to cleaning solutions and insects.
