Job summary

RSU 40/MSAD 40 SCHOOL DISTRICT in Maine seeks a School Van Driver to transport students and staff safely to school, field trips, and activities under supervision of the Director of Facilities.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, follow safety rules, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and handle student discipline appropriately while communicating with administrators.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) clearance.
• Valid Maine driver's license with clean driving record.
• Pass annual physical.
• Ability to interact with students, staff and community.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Follow instructions and communicate as necessary in writing or verbally.
• Obey all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Supervise and maintain discipline of students in the vehicle and report issues.
• Keep assigned vehicle clean and well maintained per policy.
• Interpret routes to maintain schedule effectively and efficiently.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects.
• Notify transportation director of mechanical issues or lateness.
• Discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Demonstrate dependability, integrity, and loyalty when representing RSU 40.

Job description

Title: School Van Driver

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
• Valid Maine driver's license with excellent driving record
• Pass annual physical
• Comply with RSU 40's drug testing policies
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
• Ability to interact well with students, staff and community

Reports to: Transportation Director

Job Goal: To provide safe, clean and efficient transportation of students

Essential Functions

• Follow verbal, written or demonstrated instructions, and communicate verbally and in writing as necessary.
• Obey all traffic laws.
• Follow all mandatory safety regulations.
• Supervise and maintain discipline of students in the vehicle to ensure safety and report all discipline issues to the building administrator.
• Keep assigned vehicle clean.
• Interpret directions and understand assigned route in order to maintain schedule effectively and efficiently.
• Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle, and report defects on appropriate form and transportation director notified.
• Notify the transportation director in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Exercise responsible leadership at all times.
• Transport only authorized students, staff and chaperones.
• Report all accidents and complete required reports.
• Follow all district policies.
• Participate in professional growth activities in order to have the knowledge required to perform the job successfully.
• Maintain student and staff confidentiality.
• Demonstrate a respect for the legal and human rights of students and staff.
• Follow health and safety procedures established by the district.
• Arrive and depart punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage.
• Demonstrate dependability, integrity, and loyalty when representing RSU 40.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Director in accordance with policy.
