Lewis County General Hospital is seeking a Transportation Driver to operate a van or car on a regular route, ensuring passengers are transported safely and comfortably. You will keep the vehicle clean, assist passengers boarding and disembarking, and maintain a daily mileage log while following established policies.

Candidates must hold a current valid New York State driver’s license for the vehicle operated, adhere to safety rules, and perform routine vehicle checks as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current valid New York State operator’s license appropriate for the vehicle operated.

Responsabilités

• Operates a van or car on a regular schedule.
• Provides physical assistance to passengers during boarding and disembarking.
• Ensures passengers wear safety belts and wheelchair locks are engaged.
• Keeps a daily mileage log.
• Instructs passengers about safety practices when entering and leaving the vehicle.
• Checks oil, tires, mileage and gasoline.
• Washes and cleans interior and exterior of vehicle and suggests needed repairs.
• Inspects vehicle to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
• Forwards any donations to Adult Day Care Coordinator or Adult Day Care Assistant.
• Replaces items as needed or outdated in first aid kit.
• Ensures emergency medical information is available for those participants being transported from Adult Day Care.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a van or car in transporting passengers on an assigned route. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the vehicle in a clean and safe condition. The work is performed under the supervision of a higher-ranking departmental employee in accordance with established policies and procedures. The incumbent does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

• Operates a van or car in transporting passengers on a regular schedule;
• Provides physical assistance when needed as participants board and disembark;
• Ensures all passengers wear safety belts and that wheelchairs are locked into position;
• Keeps records regarding vehicle operation including a daily mileage log;
• Instructs passengers about safety practices when entering and leaving van;
• Checks oil, tires, mileage and gasoline;
• Washes and cleans interior and exterior of vehicle and suggests needed repairs;
• Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in safe operating condition;
• Forwards any donations to Adult Day Care Coordinator or Adult Day Care Assistant;
• Replaces items as needed or outdated in first aid kit;

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the geography of the area, and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a van or car under all driving and road conditions; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine manual tasks.

Possession of a current valid New York State operator’s license appropriate for the vehicle operated

Pay Range

$17.37—$19.74 USD
