Qualifications

  • Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record—no moving violations or at-fault accidents within the past three years.
  • Minimum of 10 years of driving experience and at least one year of experience operating a passenger van with a capacity of up to 14 individuals.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age to meet insurance requirements.
  • Must maintain insurability through the agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 background screening
  • Ability to pass drug testing requirements

Responsibilities

  • Operate a Foundation-owned van safely to transport seniors and individuals with disabilities to and from adult day care programs, medical appointments, shopping trips, and other approved destinations.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of all passengers during transport, including proper use of safety restraints and adherence to road regulations.
  • Follow loading and unloading safety procedures and ensure passengers are never left unattended in the van.
  • Verify passengers are released only to authorized individuals designated by caregivers.
  • Monitor passengers’ health and behavior, reporting illness or concerns to appropriate staff.
  • In the event of an emergency or accident, follow evacuation procedures and complete required incident documentation.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections, fuel the vehicle, keep it clean, and report maintenance needs.
  • Follow routes to minimize ride times and report any traffic incidents promptly.
  • Communicate with Program Director or Transportation Lead regarding changes in schedules or routes.
  • Attend driver meetings and in-service trainings to stay compliant.
  • Assist participants with transfers between wheelchairs and van seats when needed.
  • Deliver food boxes or bags through Mobile Pantry Program and ensure proper handling of perishable items.

  • Operates a Foundation-owned van safely and efficiently to transport seniors and individuals with disabilities to and from adult day care programs, medical appointments, shopping trips, and other approved destinations.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all passengers during transport, including proper use of safety restraints and adherence to all road and traffic regulations.
  • Follows all loading and unloading safety procedures and ensures passengers are never left unattended in the van at any time.
  • Verifies that passengers are released only to authorized individuals designated by caregivers.
  • Monitors passengers’ health and behavior, reporting illness or concerns to appropriate staff and ensuring visibly sick passengers remain with family members.
  • In the event of an emergency or accident, follows written evacuation and emergency procedures, reports to the designated nurse, and completes required incident documentation.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Compliance
  • Performs and documents daily vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns to the Maintenance Coordinator prior to passenger transport.
  • Ensure the van is fueled, clean, and ready for operation at all times.
  • Maintains emergency supplies and first aid kits, reporting replacement needs to the Transportation Lead or designated staff.
  • Follows assigned routes to ensure efficient travel and minimize passenger ride times.
  • Immediately reports any traffic violations or accidents to the Transportation Lead.
Communication and Coordination
  • Communicate with the Program Director or Transportation Lead regarding passenger absences, appointment changes, or route adjustments.
  • Participate in driver meetings and required in-service training sessions to maintain compliance and enhance performance.
Physical Requirements
  • Must possess the physical ability to operate a wheelchair lift and push, pull, or move up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair.
  • May be required to assist participants with transfers between wheelchairs and van seats safely.
Special Assignments
Safe Ride Program
  • Communicates with the Program Director regarding any changes in client appointments or client status.
Mobile Pantry Program
  • Safely and efficiently deliver food boxes or bags to client addresses.
  • Communicates with the Program Director regarding any route or client status changes.
  • Ensure all food items are in good condition and that perishable items are properly handled, using freezer blankets as needed and avoiding extended storage in the vehicle.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other related duties as needed to support the overall operations and success of the organization
