Job description

Job Summary This is transportation work driving a van for the School District. It is a split shift part time position with assignments that change daily. A van driver provides rapid response to students to and from school on a regularly scheduled route, alternate sites during the school day, after hours, and school sponsored athletic functions. Performs minor daily preventative maintenance to the van as needed.

Essential Functions

• Provides critical support to transportation operations.
• Drives a passenger van to a number of assigned routes, picking up and discharging students at designated location; transports students on field trips.
• Supervises or assists in the supervision of students’ behavior while in the passenger van.
• Cleans and maintains the passenger van; may assist transportation mechanics in the daily maintenance of the passenger van which may include checking batteries, radiators and changing tires.

• Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • o the principles of automotive equipment operation.
  • o the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • o the component parts of automotive vehicles and their functions.
