Job summary

The Baker Company in Sanford, ME, is seeking a Value Stream Supervisor for Weld & Grind/Polish to lead a team responsible for welding, grinding and polishing operations. You’ll drive continuous improvement, mentor skilled welders and ensure quality, safety and on-time delivery.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent manufacturing experience, 5 years TIG welding and supervisory experience, and strong Lean and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent manufacturing experience.
• Five years of TIG welding and supervisory experience.
• Basic computer skills – MS Office.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize.
• Ability to guide a team to collectively create actionable solutions.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience with Lean.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of assigned employees including interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Assist and support plant teams with goal-setting and tracking for Continuous Improvement measures.
• Manage unscheduled equipment down time.
• Apply Continuous Improvement tools to improve line capacity, efficiency and reliability.
• Use KPIs to drive operations and improve processes.
• Support the capital plan and ensure compliance to schedule targets.
• Create control plans for sustainable improvements.
• Mentor and coach teams on Lean methods and problem solving.
• Ensure documentation and compliance; propose process changes and training.
• Collaborate with production teams to identify improvement opportunities.
• Establish and reapply best practices.
