Job summary

Komatsu is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II for the Value Innovation Group in Peoria, IL. The role leads cross-functional cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations, focusing on reducing product and process costs while maintaining safety, quality, and delivery.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in fabrication, welding, painting, and assembly, and has developed manufacturing methods that consistently meet print specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering; 5+ years preferred.
• Experience driving manufacturing improvements through design, manufacturing and process improvements.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and move from concept to implementation.
• Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project Management tools.
• Proficient using 3D CAD and AutoCAD software.
• Strong standards, layout design, fixtures, line balancing, and assembly worksheets.
• Excellent verbal, written, and telephone communication skills.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and specs to develop processes.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and prioritize cost reduction opportunities across product design and manufacturing processes.
• Select tools and programs related to automated equipment, CAD/CAM, to optimize manpower and machines.
• Complete projects timely using planning tools and cross-functional communication.
• Recommend tooling and equipment to assist fabrication and warehousing for current and updated models.
• Monitor budgets and costs while improving safety, quality, and process efficiency.
• Apply Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, PDCA, Poke Yoke) and Visual Factory to operations.
• Perform time studies and make Make vs. Buy determinations.
• Identify bottlenecks and optimize layouts to increase throughput.
• Ensure ISO documents are current and support management goals.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Finance.
