Job summary

Job Summary

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of complex Value Analysis projects across the health system ensuring consistency with Wellstar's strategy, commitments and goals. More specifically, independently leads and manages multi-disciplinary project teams to identify and implement substantial supply cost reduction, supply standardization, and supply utilization initiatives. Utilizing clinical knowledge and critical thinking, reviews and assesses applicable financial, clinical, and operational data, as well as evidence-based literature to assist teams in evaluating new supplies and new technology. Ability to represent clinical data and offer recommendations to Executive level leaders and physicians for significant project standardizations and savings, Develops effective relationships, intellectual curiosity, healthcare and business acumen. Appropriately assists in the selection, evaluation, monitoring, analysis and implementation of cost-effective products and purchased services in the healthcare system. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with clinical, administrative, and healthcare system executives and staff to ensure effective, results-oriented project outcomes. Responsible for the assistance of onboarding of new team members and maintenance of competencies. Responsible for the monitoring of the monthly dashboard and reporting trends to leadership. Responsible for all requirements of the Value Analysis Facilitator I and II roles.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Project Management & Leadership
  • Leads Value Analysis projects (supply cost reduction, supply utilization, and supply standardization projects) for WellStar Health System with appropriate project stakeholders including but not limited to: Service Line Chiefs, CMO, CSO, CNO, CQO, Physicians, Nurses, Departmental Directors, and Managers.
  • Persuasively sells ideas to gain support and buy-in from key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads Value Analysis monthly/bi-monthly team meetings.
  • Creates and executes project-specific work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing business needs and requirements.
  • Identifies resources (internal and external) needed and assigns individual responsibilities. External resources may include GPO, vendors, and other WellStar team members.
  • Effectively applies Value Analysis methodology and enforces project management standards.
  • Ensures project related documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Monitors and reports value analysis projects to administration and department managers at individual hospitals and at the system level.
  • Actively seeks savings opportunities.
  • Works cohesively with GPO partners and manages quarterly meetings.
  • Maintains annual competencies.
  • Teaches a minimum of 3 in-services per year.
  • Assists with onboarding of new team members.

  • Represents clinical data and offers recommendations to Executive level leaders and physicians for significant project standardizations and savings.

  • Utilizes clinical knowledge and critical thinking to review and assess applicable financial, clinical, and operational data, as well as evidence-based literature to assist teams in evaluating new supplies and new technology.
Analysis, Tracking and Reporting
  • Conducts clinical research on supplies and distributes to clinicians in order to determine safety and efficacy of clinical products.
  • Conducts various analyses including but not limited to cost-benefit, SBAR, ROI, NPV, procedural direct/indirect margin analysis, and proformas; verifying accuracy and completeness of all data which may come from several independent systems.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction via review of spend analysis databases, purchase history, industry benchmarks, contract compliance data and utilization information.
  • Gathers, researches, analyzes, and evaluates data from a variety of sources to produce strategic and actionable short- and long-term recommendations.
  • Summarizes key findings and conclusions; presents recommendations to key stakeholders including senior executives.
  • Maintains record of implemented projects and documented cost savings achieved.
  • Prepares and distributes team meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Writes project summary articles for supply chain newsletters.
Negotiation & Vendor Management
  • Leads vendor negotiations and/or contract negotiations.
  • Ensures vendor compliance with all applicable Value Analysis policies and procedures.
Customer Service
  • Responsible for building strategic alliances with Physicians, Senior Leadership, Directors, Managers, Clinicians.
  • Serves as a liaison between hospital/system administration, departments, clinical staff, vendors and Supply Chain staff to ensure cost-effective utilization of supplies, including but not limited to the following as appropriate: medical/surgical supplies, physician preference items, pharmaceutical supplies, capital equipment, technology and process-related activities.
  • Interacts with all appropriate departmental directors and managers in individual hospitals and at the system level communicating project statuses and soliciting necessary follow-up.Maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
  • Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Associates Nursing or Bachelors Nursing or Masters Business Science or Masters Nursing
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • CVAHP - Cert Value Analysis HC Prov or RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

CPMP Upon Hire Preferred or CRRT Upon Hire Preferred or CST Upon Hire Preferred or

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 5 years experience as a Value Analysis Facilitator Required or Minimum 5 years in a healthcare related clinical specialty (EX RN) Required and Experience analyzing and comparing RFP responses from vendors Preferred and Previous experience using healthcare data for analysis Preferred and Previous experience leading supply cost reduction, standardization or utilization projects Required.

Required Minimum Skills
  • Proven ability to interact with Senior executives, physician leaders, and clinicians to drive key business decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to autonomously initiate and complete projects in a timely manner and support multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to independently lead teams and influence others.
  • Strong project management, negotiation, change management, communication, and conflict management skills.
  • Independent and self-motivated.
  • Computer skills include knowledge and use of spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail and the World Wide Web/Internet. Ability to learn new software programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical-surgical supplies, diagnostic testing, etc preferred.
  • Knowledge of clinical and operational improvement processes.
