Job summary

CriticalPoint is seeking a Senior Associate to join its Valuation Advisory practice in Los Angeles, CA. The role focuses on executing complex valuations for mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, fairness opinions, and capital allocation decisions.

You will work with senior professionals, mentor juniors, and build meaningful client relationships. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, advanced Excel modeling, and experience with valuation methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of valuation theory, corporate finance, accounting, and financial statement analysis.
  • Advanced Excel financial modeling capabilities including DCF and other valuation models.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform enterprise, equity, and intangible asset valuations using DCF, Guideline, Precedent Transaction, and market approaches.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support valuation analyses and decision-making.
  • Analyze historical and projected financial performance, operating metrics, industry trends, and economic conditions.
  • Prepare valuation reports and presentation materials for clients.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integrated client engagements.

Senior Associate, Valuations Job Description Role Summary (Los Angeles, CA)

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate to join our growing Valuation Advisory practice. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with senior professionals and clients on complex valuation engagements supporting mergers and acquisitions, financial and tax reporting, fairness opinions, portfolio valuations, strategic planning, capital allocation decisions, and other finance initiatives.

The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and financial modeling skills, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a desire to work in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment. The Senior Associate will play a significant role in executing engagements, managing project workflows, mentoring junior team members, and developing meaningful client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:
Valuation Analysis & Execution
  • Perform business enterprise, equity, and intangible asset valuations using accepted valuation methodologies, including: o Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) o Guideline Public Company Method o Precedent Transaction Method o Market and Asset-Based Approaches
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support valuation analyses and strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze historical and projected financial performance, operating metrics, industry trends, and economic conditions.
  • Conduct research on public companies, transactions, capital markets, cost of capital assumptions, valuation multiples, and industry benchmarks.
  • Prepare purchase price allocation analyses, goodwill impairment testing, stock compensation valuations, portfolio valuations, fairness opinions, and tax-related valuation engagements.
  • Assist clients in understanding valuation drivers, key assumptions, and business performance considerations.
Client Service & Project Management
  • Support Managing Directors and senior leadership in managing multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Participate in client meetings, management interviews, and diligence discussions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and defensible valuation reports and presentation materials.
  • Coordinate project deliverables and timelines while maintaining high-quality work standards.
  • Collaborate with professionals across Investment Banking, Private Capital, and other advisory practices on integrated client engagements.
Team Development
  • Contribute to practice development initiatives, research projects, and internal knowledge-sharing efforts.
  • Support the continued growth and enhancement of CriticalPoint's valuation methodologies, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications:
Required
  • 3-6 years of experience in business valuations, transaction advisory, corporate finance, investment banking, valuation consulting and/or financial reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of valuation theory, corporate finance, accounting, and financial statement analysis.
  • Advanced Excel financial modeling capabilities.
  • Experience building DCF, operating, and integrated financial models.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Preferred
  • CFA, ASA, CPA, ABV, CVA, or progress toward one of these designations.
  • Experience with purchase price allocations, goodwill impairment testing, fairness opinions, or portfolio valuations.
  • Familiarity with valuation software, Capital IQ, PitchBook, FactSet, Bloomberg, or similar research platforms.
  • Experience working with private equity sponsors, middle-market companies, or professional services firms.
  • Exposure to data analytics, Power BI, Tableau, Python, or other analytical tools.
  • Practical experience building and deploying AI-enabled solutions is highly valued
