Job summary

PENN Entertainment’s Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course is seeking a team member to support racing operations, maintain jockey equipment, and assist with saddling and unsaddling horses. The role requires knowledge of the Rules of Racing, ability to work in varied weather, and a high school diploma.

You will work on-site at Mahoning Valley, with the potential for benefits via the Total Rewards package, including bonus eligibility and PTO in line with local policy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of the Rules of Racing.
• Ability to read and interpret English safety and operating instructions.
• Basic math and measurement skills; ability to use adding machines.
• Eligible for licenses/permits as required by racing authorities.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Checks, cleans and maintains jockeys' equipment, including clothing.
• Assists jockeys with riding gear.
• Assists trainers in saddling horses for races.
• Assists jockeys in unsaddling horses and returning equipment to room.
• Arranges saddles and pads to ensure proper weight in each race.
• May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Checks, Cleans and maintains all Jockeys equipment, including clothing for Jockeys.
• Assists Jockeys with riding gear.
• Assists Trainers in saddling horses for each race.
• Assists Jockeys in unsaddling horses for each race, returning Jockey equipment back to room after each race.
• Arrange and equip saddles and pads so that jockey will carry proper weight in each race.
• May be asked by Jockey to perform additional services.

Requirements

• Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing. Must be able to work in various weather conditions. Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy. Other duties, as needed.
• Education and/or Experience: High School diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required. Multilingual preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of America money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Possess ability to operate an adding machine and have basic computer skills.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations, including the Ohio State Racing commission.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have acceptable driving history as determined by PENN Entertainment, Inc.’s auto insurance carrier.
