Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Clinical Services Nurse (CSN) to provide advanced nursing care for patients with heart failure treated with VADs, coordinate pre- and post-implant care, and work within an interdisciplinary team.

This role includes educating patients and families, developing care protocols, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Eligible candidates will have BSN, RN license, ACLS/BLS, and at least 2 years of RN experience with VAD exposure.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited BSN program.
• Current unrestricted RN license.
• AHA ACLS and BLS certification.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with 1 year in patients with durable VAD.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced nursing care for patients before and after mechanical circulatory support implant including VADs and total artificial heart implant.
• Coordinates evaluation process for pre-VAD patients to ensure effective use of hospital resources.
• Assess post-VAD patient organ function and determine need for additional assessment or intervention.
• Participates in development and implementation of protocols and standards of care for VAD patients.
• Coach patients and families for discharge planning and ongoing VAD education.
• Establishes collaborative relationships to promote patient safety and clinical excellence.
