JOB DESCRIPTION:

The UVM Health Medical Group Director is responsible for the operational leadership for the Golisano Children's Hospital at UVMH (GCH) and ambulatory clinics to support the provision of nationally-recognized, family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents throughout Vermont and northern New York, ensuring that families in our rural region can access the comprehensive pediatric care they deserve close to home. GCH is UVM Health System wide academic pediatric program, inclusive of pediatric primary, subspecialty, inpatient and outpatient care, education of medical students, residents and follows, research and child health advocacy. The hospital and its clinicals collaborate with a network of providers across the region on statewide child health quality improvement projects and optimization of health care delivery in rural areas. The Golisano Childrens Hospital at UVMH values its patient family advisory committee, strong community relations, and commitment to continuous quality improvement. For the assigned practices and services, the Directors is responsible for translating UVMH strategy into, and coaching leaders responsible for, day-to-day operational execution. A focus on operational metrics and outcomes from a patient and clinician perspective are critical to success. This individual leads a group of people leaders ensuring consistent execution of workflows, staffing models, and clinic operations.

This role partners with Division Chiefs, Site Leaders, and Department Leadership to drive reliable, efficient operations aligned with Medical Group standards and system priorities.

The Director is accountable for:

• Coaching and holding supervisors and managers accountable for performance and daily management discipline
• Achieving budget, staffing, and productivity targets through active oversight
• Executing patient access initiatives and operational improvements
• Using data, rounding, and direct engagement to monitor performance and drive action

Track record of achievement in child health operations and academic pediatric administration.

This is a highly execution-focused role, requiring strong day-to-day operational presence across multiple locations and geographies, with accountability to deliver consistent performance, improved access, and efficient medical group practice operations.

Additionally, the Director is given opportunities to lead medical group-wide initiatives regarding access improvement, operations, policy development, etc.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Healthcare Management, or related field required. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Business Administration or Health Care Administration or a related area.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in management (if assigned to UVMMC campus, preferably experience in an academic setting). At least 3 years of experience in health care operational management. Preference for experience leading and managing teams across sites or service lines.
