Job summary

City of Springfield (MO) is hiring an independent, self-motivated Utility Worker to join the Park Operations team. You will perform maintenance, construction, and repair work on parks and facilities such as parks, trails, pools, and athletic complexes.

The role supports care and beautification of over 3,200 acres of park property with daily maintenance duties. The job requires at least two years of related experience and may require CDL, pool/spa operator, playground safety, CFC, or backflow

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in maintenance, construction, and/or repair of facilities, infrastructure, buildings, grounds, and/or equipment.
  • Experience with pavement, lighting, mechanical and/or electrical systems, HVAC, welding and/or plumbing is preferred.
  • Certifications listed below are desirable or required for certain vacancies.

  • Perform maintenance, construction, and repair work on parks and facilities including parks, trails, pools, athletic complexes, and more.
  • Maintain and beautify over 3,200 acres of park property through daily upkeep and repairs.
  • Operate, inspect, and service building systems and equipment as assigned.

Job description

The Springfield-Greene County Parks Department is seeking an independent, self-motivated, hard-working individual to join our Park Operations team as a Utility Worker. This position is responsible for performing maintenance, construction and repair work on various parks and facilities. These include parks, trails, fitness centers, pools, athletic complexes, and more.

It takes a lot to maintain all 105 Springfield-Greene County Park Board locations, ranging from neighborhood parks, multi-use recreational facilities, natural resource areas, special use facilities and aquatic facilities. Our Park Operations maintenance staff work daily to contribute to the care and beautification of over 3,200 acres of park property.

Experience, Education, and Training
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the maintenance, construction, and/or repair of facilities, infrastructure, buildings, grounds, and/or equipment with experience in pavement, lighting, mechanical and/or electrical systems (electrical = 240 to 480 volts), HVAC, welding, and/or plumbing systems;
AND
  • Experience must be commensurate with repair and maintenance specialty required for current vacancy.
Licensing/Certification
  • A valid Driver's License is required. Most work assignments require a valid class "A" or "B- with airbrakes" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) be obtained within the probationary period for all assignments except Dickerson Park Zoo.
  • Incumbents assigned to Parks must obtain Public Pool & Spa Operator Certification within first year of employment and Playground Safety Certification is desirable.
  • Chlorofluorocarbon certification (CFC) is required for certain vacancies.
  • Some assignments require Certification for Backflow Prevention within first year of employment.
