Position exists to perform a variety of tasks to ensure efficient and reliable operation, maintenance, protection and appearance of all pipelines; services hydrants, valves and other appurtenances.

Key Accountabilities

• Perform all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of fellow employees and the general public.
• Erect barricades and place safety lights around work sites to protect workers from street traffic; may flag traffic as required.
• Ensure sites are secure before leaving; interpret system maps and field locate water company assets, remove and install water meters; inspect, disassemble, and repair damaged or malfunctioning control devices of water distribution systems, using hand and/or power tools.
• Break up pavement using tools; manually dig ditches in preparation of laying or removing pipe or service lines; maneuver pipe sections, valves and fittings into position.
• Must be able to maneuver equipment and materials of varying weights up to 100 lbs.
• Backfill excavations using compaction equipment on dirt, crusted stone and cold-mix; may operate small backhoe.
• Read meters and ensure readings are properly recorded.
• Inspect meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect leaks or malfunctions.
• Tighten pipe connections to prevent leaks using wrenches and other hand tools as required.
• Use technology to prepare requisitions and/or reports to appropriately maintain service records.
• May be assigned to perform responsibilities either individually or in conjunction with other employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills

• Computer skills to navigate use of technology for recording work activities (e.g. iPad, laptop, cell phone).
• Basic geographical knowledge of the company's service area and adaptability to variations in topography and weather conditions.
• Working knowledge of company policies, procedures and safety practices as well as regulations regarding confined spaces.

Experience/Education

• GED/HS Diploma.
• Able to operate company equipment and vehicles necessary for completion of assigned responsibilities.
• Must possess five (5) years of experience in utility/construction or related field.

Travel Requirements

• Must live within 30 minutes of Princeton Operations center in order to respond to emergencies timely.
• Typical outdoor work environment; must be available to work overtime as needed.
