Job summary

Via is actively seeking a hands-on Utility Worker in Baton Rouge to help maintain safety, efficiency, and functionality of our facilities, vehicles, and grounds. This role offers on‑the‑job training and no prior transit experience is required, with the opportunity to contribute across a wide range of tasks.

Key duties include cleaning and detailing buses, performing custodial work, and assisting with special projects.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Dynamic; willing to wear multiple hats and work on projects of all types.
• An action-oriented executor: you take initiative to solve problems and get the job done.
• Successful completion of a drug test, criminal background check, and motor vehicle records check is mandatory for employment.
• Able to pass a pre‑employment physical.
• Pass a drug screening and background check: no felonies, clean MVR, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions, and no more than 2 speeding tickets.
• At least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

• Upkeep, sanitize, and detail buses and support vehicles to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for riders and staff.
• Perform general building and grounds upkeep, including custodial tasks and minor repairs, ensuring facilities are clean, orderly, and operating safely.
• Support the operations team with miscellaneous responsibilities as they arise, including moving equipment, organizing workspaces, and assisting with special projects.
• Additional duties will be discussed during the interview and may evolve based on operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits

• Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills.
• Salary: $17 - $19 per hour.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
