Responsibilities

• Performs BOD/CBOD analyses, pH and alkalinity, solids, metals, and microbiology tests.
• Reviews and interprets analytical test results for regulatory compliance.
• Reports results to appropriate documents and personnel.
• Notifies authorities of regulatory violations.
• Assembles data into proper reporting format and reviews new regulations.
• May assist with environmental impact studies or special projects.
• Assists senior staff with assignments as needed.
• Drives Metro Water Services vehicle to different locations.
• On-call and overtime may be required, including after-hours, weekends, or holidays.

Utility Water Quality Analyst 1 performs entry level duties associated with the analysis of water and wastewater sources; evaluates test results to assure compliance with State and Federal regulations. Performs related duties as required.

Employees at Metro Water Services (MWS) work around the clock to supply, treat, manage, and protect our water resources in a sustainable manner for the benefit of all who live, work, and play in our community. Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers. • Prepares, calibrates, operates, and maintains complex equipment and instruments used to evaluate the quality and potability of water samples/wastewater.


• Collects and analyzes samples from various areas of water distribution and collection system, including water and wastewater facilities using standard methods and prescribed Laboratory procedures.


• Conducts BOD & CBOD analyses, pH & Alkalinity analysis, solids analysis, volatile fatty acids analysis, and analysis for coliforms, wet chemistry, metals, microbiology & metals.


• Reviews and Interprets analytical test results for regulatory compliance.


• Reports analytical results to appropriate documents and personnel.


• Notifies appropriate authorities of regulatory violations.


• Collects and assembles data into proper format for reporting.


• Reviews new regulations affecting water analysis procedures.


• May assist with environmental impact studies/special projects.


• Assists senior staff with assignments as needed.


• Driving a MWS vehicle to different locations.


• This position requires periodic on-call and overtime potentially falling on after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.

NOTE: Employees in this classification shall be automatically upgraded to the next level in this classification series provided all of the criteria of Policy 5.6 B-I "Upgrades for Targeted Classifications" are met.
