Job Overview

We are seeking a Utility Engineering Technician in the Engineering, Development Services and/or Stormwater divisions at Metro Water Services. The position involves investigation and inspection duties to support water, wastewater, stormwater infrastructure and the sustainable management of our community’s water resources.

Typical Duties

• Perform inspections of active stormwater construction projects, prepare daily logs, and coordinate with contractors.
• Communicate with property owners and businesses regarding construction projects, and resolve issues with internal staff, engineering consultants, and contractors.
• Investigate drainage complaints, interview stakeholders, document flow on maps, determine required work, and communicate resolution steps.
• Perform inspections and enforcement duties for Metro Grading Permit sites and non‑GP related matters, including documentation and pre‑construction meetings.
• Inspect active water and sewer construction projects, document activities, adhere to regulatory protocols, and review construction documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma and at least 2 years of inspection, investigative, or compliance experience related to water, wastewater, or stormwater infrastructure.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Understanding of installation techniques for water, sewer, and storm sewer lines.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety rules and procedures.
• Computer literate (Windows, Microsoft Office).
• TDEC EPSC Level 1 certification.
