Job summary

Davey Resource Group, Inc. is seeking a UVM Technician to join a team of environmental professionals. The role involves working with major electric and gas utilities to address vegetation needs and collecting field data using handheld devices and GPS.

You will coordinate with landowners, project managers and crews, and audit contractor work. A strong background in horticulture/forestry and GIS is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree or higher in horticulture, forestry, urban forestry, environmental science or related discipline.
  • ISA Arborist certification (or ability to obtain within 6–12 months) and pesticide applicator license.
  • Current valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Proficient in basic computer software: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with GIS or digital mapping software.

Responsibilities

  • Work with major electric/gas utilities to address forestry-related needs.
  • Collect and enter data on handheld devices; follow maps and use GPS navigation.
  • Communicate with landowners regarding work near their property.
  • Audit work performed by contractors and coordinate with vegetation crews.
  • Discuss and resolve line-clearance crew access issues with clients and managers.
  • Handle special projects as assigned and coordinate with project teams.
  • Inspect utility rights of way and ensure compliance with regulations.

Position Overview

We are currently looking to add a dynamic UVM Technician to our passionate team of environmental professionals.

Job Duties
  • Work with major electric/gas utility system and address its forestry needs
  • Collect and enter data on handheld devices, follow maps and use GPS navigation
  • Communicate with landowners regarding work on or near their property
  • Audit work completed by contractors.
  • Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, planners, and vegetation crews
  • Inspect utility rights of ways and identify vegetation incompatible with state and federal regulations
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Professional or Collegiate Practical Tree Work Experience (including Collegiate Climbing Classes, Forestry Club Operations, Production Climber, Groundsman, or Lift Operator, etc).
  • Proficiency with local Tree Identification and Tree Physiology. ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain in 6-12 months. Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.
