Job summary

Davey Resource Group, Inc. is seeking a UVM Technician to support utility vegetation management projects across the United States. You will collect field data, assist with line clearance inspections, and coordinate with project managers and vegetation crews to ensure compliance and safety.

This role emphasizes GIS awareness, tree identification, and the use of handheld devices for data entry. A valid driver’s license and a related degree are preferred, with opportunities for training and career

Qualifications

  • Professional or Collegiate Tree-related work experience.
  • ISA Certified Arborist or able to obtain within 6–12 months.
  • Current driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Proficient with computers and common software.
  • Degree in horticulture/forestry/environmental science or related.
  • Experience with GIS or digital mapping software.

Responsibilities

  • Work with utility systems to address forestry needs.
  • Collect and enter data using handheld devices; follow maps and GPS.
  • Communicate with landowners about work on their property.
  • Audit contractor work and coordinate access with line crews.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, planners and vegetation crews.

Position Overview

We are currently looking to add a dynamic UVM Technician to our passionate team of environmental professionals.

Job Duties
  • Work with major electric/gas utility system and address its forestry needs
  • Collect and enter data on handheld devices, follow maps and use GPS navigation
  • Communicate with landowners regarding work on or near their property
  • Audit work completed by contractors.
  • Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, planners, and vegetation crews
  • Inspect utility rights of ways and identify vegetation incompatible with state and federal regulations
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Professional or Collegiate Practical Tree Work Experience (including Collegiate Climbing Classes, Forestry Club Operations, Production Climber, Groundsman, or Lift Operator, etc).
  • Proficiency with local Tree Identification and Tree Physiology. ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain in 6-12 months. Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Two or four year degree in horticulture, forestry, urban forestry, environmental science or a related discipline
  • Experience with GIS or other digital mapping software
