Job summary

The City of Temple, TX is seeking a dedicated Utility Technician to install, repair and maintain water and wastewater infrastructure under the supervision of the Crew Leader. You will operate related equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards and traffic control guidelines.

Responsibilities include repairing lines, installing mains and meters, performing line locates under Texas One Call, handling excavation, and safely transporting materials with heavy trucks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Class A CDL License with Tanker Endorsement required.
• TCEQ License C Water and Collection II required.

Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Operates related equipment safely and complies with safety controls.
• Repairs water/wastewater lines; inspects pipes and installs repair parts.
• Installs mains, services, laterals, taps and meters, valves, hydrants, and related components.
• Assists in excavation; operates heavy equipment; locates pipes.
• Cleans and maintains wastewater lines; clears blockages in mains and laterals.
• Performs line locates under Texas One Call laws.
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment.
• Installs traffic control per state and federal manuals.
• Follows City policies and safety guidelines; performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Utility Technician, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment
• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment
• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
