Position Hours
8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday
Minimum Job Duties
Perform semi-skilled and administrative work in the operation, maintenance and repair of water booster pump stations, water storage facilities, sewer lift stations, sewer-metering devices, chemical feed equipment, and sampling.
- Responsible for the routine maintenance, operation and repair of pump stations, sewer collection systems, water boosters, equipment, instruments, and control panels
- May act as a lead worker on a small crew of semi-skilled workers
- Assists contractors with cleaning and inspection of pump stations
- Assists specialty contractors with repairs that are outside of the Commissions abilities
- Responsible for sewer meter reading
- Performs routine manhole inspections
- Collets and assists with sampling as required by applicable permits
- Accurately records information and maintains status sheets, daily logs and preventive maintenance check sheets
- Changes and/or adds oil to all pumps, motors, and generators
- Greases motors and bearings on equipment per manufacturers recommendations
- Uses hand tools, keeps tools clean and stored in proper place
- Checks vibration on pumps and motors
- Basic understanding and use of volt, ohm, amp meters
- Inspects wiring for electrical devices, including switches, receptacles, panels, fuse boxes and controls
- Maintain written/electronic records of pump station checks, repairs, cleaning and maintenance
- Required to work overtime and/or be on-call
- Performs related tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the State of South Carolina
- Considerable experience as a worker in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of utility systems
- Must have knowledge and understanding of appropriate safety procedures and be able to respond in emergency situations
- Knowledge of the maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area to which assigned
- Knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of the common hand and power tools required in the work
- Knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned
- Skill in the use of the equipment to which assigned
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
- Possess the fundamental skills of literacy; ability to understand, interpet, and create written information; to effectively communicate through reading, writing, speaking and listening
Beneficial Skills & Experience
- Any level of licensure in Water Treatment or Water Distribution as issued by the State of SC Environmental Certification Board.
- Any level of licensure in Wastewater Collection as issued by the Water Environment Association of South Carolina.
