Job summary

City of Temple, TX is seeking a Water Treatment Operator to operate, monitor, test, and troubleshoot the water supply, treatment plant, distribution system, and storage facilities. Flexible hours at a 24-hour facility including weekends and holidays; supervision from a lead operator.

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a Class C Surface Water certification from TCEQ; training and advancement opportunities are available within the water department.

Qualifications

• Operates and monitors treatment processes using SCADA systems and adjusts equipment in accordance with permits.
• Performs laboratory duties, maintains instruments, collects samples, and conducts analyses.
• Maintains records and reports with accuracy during each shift.

Responsibilities

• Operates, monitors, and troubleshoots water treatment plant and distribution systems.
• Supports plant operations with routine maintenance and safety compliance.
• Collects samples, logs results, and ensures regulatory documentation is complete.
• Assists with inspections, training Water Operators I, and responding to public inquiries.
• Works in confined spaces and around hazardous chemicals; operates heavy equipment as needed.

Summary

Responsible for operating, monitoring, controlling, testing, and troubleshooting water supply, treatment plant, distribution system and storage facilities. Work under the direct supervision of a lead operator or supervisor. Must be available to work flexible hours at 24-hour facility to include weekends and holidays.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Continues to develop the knowledge and skills for the essential operations of the water treatment plant and facilities, including both conventional and membrane treatment, in accordance with State and Federal regulations.


• Operates and monitors treatment process using Supervisory Controller & Data Acquisition (SCADA); adjusts chemicals and treatment equipment in accordance with regulatory permits


• Performs laboratory duties, maintains instruments, monitors quality control, collects samples, conducts analyses, and prepares samples for transport


• Recommends process control adjustments to ensure optimum treatment and maintenance efforts, forwards to immediate supervisor


• Enters sample analysis into daily log and ensures accuracy of all records/reports on their shift


• Meets daily with supervisor and reports performance of the entire system


• Assists with training Water Operators I


• Provides plant status update to on-coming operator team; accepts plant status update to the preceding operator team


• Responds to public complaints or concerns


• Assists with TCEQ inspections, construction, and maintenance projects


• Works in confined space and works around hazardous chemicals


• Operates heavy equipment for facility maintenance including lift and boom trucks


• Assists with sludge removal, transferring and disposal


• Performs preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, and tanks; cleans and services all areas throughout the plant


• Calibrates and performs maintenance on mechanical, analytical, instrumentation and telemetry equipment


• Develops the knowledge and ability to solve problems under normal and stressful conditions


• Attends TWUA monthly trainings


• Maintains certification and completes continuing educations training courses


• Follows the city policies, procedures and safety guidelines pertaining to the work area and equipment


• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
