Job summary

City of Corpus Christi is seeking an Utility Technician I to maintain and operate the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The role requires compliance with regulatory standards and safety procedures.

The position is full-time and non-exempt. Responsibilities include installing and repairing water mains, meters, and AMR components, as well as customer service and emergency duties as needed.

Description
Overview

The Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

Responsibilities
  • Work with a crew to install, repair, and maintain water mains, valves, and fire hydrants
  • Repair and maintain wastewater gravity and force mains, manholes, and services
  • Perform wastewater system maintenance and cleaning
  • Install meters at residential service connections
  • Install, program, and maintain AMR components
  • Perform water service turn-off and turn-on duties for residential, commercial, and industrial customers

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
  • Non-Exempt – Full-Time – 40-hour work week
  • Must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.
