Job summary

Silgan Plastics Corporation is seeking a production worker focused on safety and efficiency to support downstream packaging operations in our Kentucky facility. The role involves sorting dunnage, operating palletizing equipment, and maintaining continual production flow

The candidate must hold a forklift license, be able to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly, and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong communication with team members.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Forklift license is required.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds continuously throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

• Sort dunnage for damage and segregate for disposition.
• Build stacks of dunnage with correct count, height, weight and orientation.
• Load downstream unitizing areas and manage dunnage inventory to prevent shortages.
• Operate palletizer, wrapper, bander to ensure timely movement per spec.
• Monitor and assist in blending areas; alert technician when needed.
• Restart downstream equipment and rework bottles as required.
• Work with the Operator to maintain production.

Job description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all duties listed below;

• Sort incoming dunnage for damage, broken, torn or otherwise unusable materials and segregate/label for disposition.
• Build proper stacks of dunnage for use on our downstreams. Units to be correctly stacked by number, height, weight, orientation etc. as specified.
• Load downstream unitizing areas with dunnage and manage the dunnage inventory to avoid running out.
• Capable of operating the palletizer, wrapper, bander etc. to ensure product is moving through per specification and a timely manner.
• Monitor and operate the blending area(s) for the designated lines. Asist and alert Utility Technician when further assistance is needed.
• Monitor the Downstreams of the designated lines.
• Clear bottle jams.
• Restart downstream equipment as needed.
• Rework bottles as needed.
• Work closely with the Operator to maintain production.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Forklift license.

SKILLS

Required: Strong commitment to safety a must, mechanically inclined, ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, self-motivated, work with minimal supervision, good written & verbal communication skills, and good work ethic. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds continuously throughout the shift. Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching and twisting. Able to operate a lift truck and attain lift truck license. Able to move and place downstream components (pallets, slip sheets, etc.).
