Responsibilities

  • Perform daily operations and maintenance of utility equipment (HVAC, boilers, chillers, water systems).
  • Inspect and repair HVAC and related facilities; document PMs and repairs.
  • Escalate critical issues to lead for scheduling.
  • Repair heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment including controls and sensors.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance, wiring, motors and control systems.
  • Repair plumbing pipes and fixtures, including gas and water lines.
  • Identify and repair leaks in water, compressed air, and Freon systems.
  • Maintain CMMS records for repairs and PMs.
  • Adhere to GMP safety and regulatory compliance.

Reports To: Compliance & Project Manager

Job Summary: The Utility Technician is responsible for assisting with troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs on buildings, industrial systems and maintenance equipment for assigned facilities, with an emphasis on HVAC, Boilers, Air Compressors, electrical maintenance and repairs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily operations and maintenance of all utility equipment including but not limited to chillers, water towers, boilers, water softeners, and HVAC equipment.
  • Inspects/Repair HVAC equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition; maintains accurate records of routine maintenance and determines type and extent of any malfunction of equipment and, as necessary; adjusts, disassembles and repairs or replaces parts or components, reassembles and tests for proper operation
  • Escalates critical issues to immediate lead/supervisor for instructions or maintenance scheduling.
  • Service and make repairs to heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including fans, motors, thermostats, dampers and regulating controls; replaces filters and fluids as necessary; and maintains accurate records of repairs and PMs.
  • Performs routine electrical maintenance, replacement or alteration of circuit wiring, switches, control equipment and mechanisms, motors, transformers, relays, generators, appliances, fixtures, alarms, communication equipment, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and perform improvement modifications to gas, water, and sanitary plumbing pipes and fixtures.
  • Bend, cut, ream and thread pipes, weld joints, test joints and pipe systems for leaks.
  • Identify and repair leaks on all water systems, compressed air systems, and Freon systems (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, RO, air compressors, etc.)
  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, contractors, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to use adequately the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to maintain all repair and preventative maintenance (PM) records.
  • Consistently supports Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) compliance and safety principles. Protecting the assets of the organization, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulation and policies and procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to co-workers, customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly workstation / Shop Area as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school Diploma.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • 5+ Years of Utility Experience, Leadership experience a plus
  • Technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Compressors, and Boilers.
  • Knowledge of equipment, controls, and components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings and technical manuals.
  • Ability to share knowledge with others.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Universal EPA Certificate.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a teammate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Utility Technician is required to work in an office environment, outside, and on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate frequently will be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat and/or cold, blood and body fluids and associated pathogens. The teammate occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and has to the risk of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and /or hear. The teammate frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, sit, crouch, or crawl. The teammate frequently travels up and down stairs and other uneven work surfaces. The teammate is occasionally required to taste, touch or smell.

Teammates must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull, and balance up to 75 pounds.
