Job summary

The Army Sustainment Command (ASC) at Pine Bluff Arsenal is seeking a Utility Systems Operator to manage gas and oil-fired boiler plants supporting the steam and air branch.

You will monitor pressure gauges and flow meters, keep detailed meter records, and troubleshoot system issues under limited supervision, with physical tasks including lifting and climbing as needed to service equipment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Operator without more than normal supervision.
  • Observing pressure gauges and flow meters.
  • Maintaining records of meter readings and test results.
  • Troubleshooting systems to determine causes of malfunctions.
  • Occasionally works in awkward and cramped positions when performing repairs; heavy lifting over 50 pounds.
  • Working conditions include exposure to heat, cold, noise, fumes, and dirty spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Operate gas or oil fired boiler plants for the steam and air branch.

Job description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position

This position is with the Army Sustainment Command (ASC) located at Pine Bluff Arsenal. This position serves as a Utility Systems Operator in charge of gas or oil fired boiler plants for the steam and air branch.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element)

Ability to do the work of an Utility Systems Operator without more than normal supervision which include

  • Observing pressure gauges and flow meters
  • Maintaining records of meter readings and test results
  • Troubleshooting systems to determine causes of malfunctions

- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts

Occasionally works in awkward and cramped positions when making minor repairs. Frequent standing, walking and climbing is required when making prescribed checks of all operating plants. Requires heavy lifting of over 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Subject to abnormal heat when operating boiler plants. Subject to abnormal cold and bad weather when making prescribed checks in winter. Danger of boiler explosions, high noise levels, toxic fuel and chemical fumes, steam burns and scalding water. May work in dirty, inadequately lighted and ventilated spaces.
