Job description

The 113th Wing Squadron is responsible for the safe and proper operation of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, ensuring that facilities are adequately heated and cooled.

This position functions as a journeyman-level Utilities Systems Repairer and Operator, performing checks, tests, adjustments, and troubleshooting to determine repair or operation needs. The role encompasses two crafts: the majority of duties involve either the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of boiler plants and heating distribution systems or air conditioning equipment, with the remaining responsibilities covering the other craft.

Major Duties
  • Install, operate, repair, and modify oil and gas-fired heating plant equipment, including component parts and elements. Plan installations considering specific boiler or furnace types, adjust and balance components for maximum efficiency, and adhere to energy conservation and safety standards.
  • Maintain, repair, and operate low-pressure steam and hot water boilers and distribution systems.
  • Work on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, including controls, to regulate cooling, humidifying, and filtering functions for various facilities.
  • Perform work on infrastructure such as industrial burners, space heaters, circulating pumps, and related components, including installation and repair of flues, baffles, chimneys, refractory linings, and related equipment.
  • Address all instrument and control requirements, including gauges, meters, thermometers, and safety devices, utilizing test equipment to trace circuits and diagnose issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of air conditioning equipment and systems, including components like compressors, condensers, evaporators, and controls.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning principles and systems.
  • Experience in maintaining utility equipment such as power plants, pumps, heating systems, and refrigeration units.
  • Ability to interpret gauges and monitoring equipment to evaluate system performance and determine corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with measuring instruments, testing equipment, and hand tools, including pipefitting tools.
  • Understanding of safety procedures related to utility systems and the ability to work safely in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and a secret security clearance.
  • Position is classified as "Emergency," requiring availability for emergency calls 24/7 and the ability to operate a motor vehicle for snow removal during winter.
Licensure/Certifications
  • Universal CFC certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
