Job summary

City of Concord is seeking a worker to assist in construction projects, water line repair/installation and maintenance of the water infrastructure. The role involves digging, piping and ensuring reliable service to customers.

Responsibilities include replacing meters, turning off/on services, installing and servicing water lines and hydrants, and loading supplies for field work. A high school diploma or equivalent and basic reading/math skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Ability to read data and perform basic calculations.
• Experience operating basic machinery and hand tools.
• Good communication and teamwork.

• Replaces non-operating meters, meter boxes, and lids.
• Discontinues and reinstates water services and secures final reading for customer service.
• Installs, repairs, and services water lines, fire hydrants and valves.
• Loads truck with supplies and materials needed to complete the job.

Supplemental Functions

• Performs other similar duties as required.

Licensing and Certifications

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

• Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking.
• Very Heavy: Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly.
• Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.
