Job summary

The City of Concord is seeking a hands-on Water Infrastructure Technician to support construction projects, water line repair/installation, and maintenance of our water system. Duties include digging, installing piping, replacing meters and boxes, and securing final readings for customer service, along with loading trucks with materials.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of relevant experience; a valid North Carolina driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, lifting, bending, and crawling.

Responsibilities

  • Digs holes, installs piping, and removes debris after a job is complete.
  • Replaces non-operating meters, meter boxes, and lids.
  • Discontinues and reinstates water services and secures final reading for customer service.
  • Installs, repairs, and services water lines, fire hydrants and valves.
  • Loads truck with supplies and materials needed to complete the job.
  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Job description

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Digs holes, installs piping, and performs debris removal after job is complete.
  • Replaces non-operating meters, meter boxes, and lids.
  • Discontinues and reinstates water services and secures final reading for customer service.

  • Loads truck with supplies and materials needed to complete the job.
Supplemental Functions
  • Performs other similar duties as required.
Licensing And Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking.
  • Very Heavy: Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
